What to include in your graduation song story.

You don’t need to be a writer. The best graduation songs say what it took. Think about:

  • Their name, and what they are finishing: high school, college, a trade program, a nursing degree, the GED.
  • The hard part: the class they nearly dropped, the job they worked, the move.
  • Who cheered them on: a parent, a teacher, a coach, a roommate.
  • Small things: the coffee order, the study spot, the lucky pen, the 6 a.m. alarm.
  • What comes next, and what you hope for them.

Put the graduation date in the “Anything extra you’d like to see end up in the song” box. If a name is hard to pronounce, or there is something to leave out, say so in that same box.

Five star tips for graduation songs.

These are the choices that most often make the difference between an okay song and one you want to play again.

  • Say what they finished and what it took. “Finished nursing school while working nights” gives the song a story. “Congratulations on graduating” doesn’t.
  • Credit the people behind them. A parent, grandparent, teacher or coach who showed up gives the chorus someone to sing about. Use first names, and leave out details those people wouldn’t want shared.
  • Look ahead in one or two lines. The city, the job, the first apartment. Use plans that are real. The AI is instructed to stick to the facts you give it and not to invent events.
  • Match the sound to the graduate. Pop with a Joyful or Uplifting style suits a party. Folk with a Tender or Heartfelt style suits a quiet family gift. Hip-hop or Rap suits a graduate who would love it. Say the mood and tempo you want, and don’t name an artist.
  • Keep names and the school simple. Use first names, spell hard ones the way they sound, and name the school or program only if you want it in the song. Leave out student ID numbers, grades and addresses.
  • Order before the ceremony. Previews usually take about 5 minutes. You can buy a full song for up to 14 days after your previews are made, and corrections must be requested within 24 hours of buying.

General or specific?

The AI writes from the details you give it. General lines give it little to work with; specific ones give it something to sing.

GeneralYou worked so hard and made us proud.
SpecificYou studied in the break room on your lunch hour for two years and still saved a seat for your little sister.
GeneralThe future is bright.
SpecificIn August you move to Denver with two suitcases, a secondhand bike and a job offer you have read forty times.

A short example.

This example is invented, for illustration only. Your own story will be different, and that’s the point.

Occasion
Graduation

Their name / Your name
Maya / Rosa

Your story
Maya graduates from high school on May 17. She worked weekends at her uncle’s tire shop, studies with headphones on and a bowl of popcorn, loses her keys every week, and taught her little brother to read. She is the first in our family to go to college and starts at Arizona State in the fall. Her grandfather will be in the front row in his old Army jacket. I’m her mom.

Your message
We are so proud of you, and we’ll be the loud ones in the stands.

Spoken, sung or played
The graduation is May 17. Maya is MY-uh. Please work in “the loud ones in the stands” if it fits.

Genres, mood/style, instruments and singer
Pop and Folk, Joyful, piano, female voice

What to leave out.

  • Grades, ID numbers and addresses. Your story is sent to a third-party AI service to create the music.
  • Anything they’d be embarrassed to hear at a party. A graduation song may be played in front of family and friends.
  • Identifying details for a minor. For a graduate under 18, use a first name only and leave out the school address.

Giving your song.

Play it at the graduation party, send the link with a card, or add it to a video or slideshow you make yourself. Your downloaded copy is for personal use and you can’t earn money from it. A school or business using it, or any use in advertising, isn’t allowed; see how you can use your song. Planning a surprise? Use your own email address in the form and share the song when you’re ready.

How it works.

Questions about graduation songs.

Can I order for a high school or younger graduate?

Yes. You must be 18 or older to order, but the graduate can be any age. Use a first name and leave out the school address and other identifying details.

Can the song name the school or program?

You can add it to your story, and the lyrics may use it where it fits. If you want a particular name or phrase in the song, add it to the “spoken, sung or played” box. It may not appear word for word.

Can a school or class use the song at an event?

Your downloaded copy is for personal use. Playing it at your own family party is fine. Using it for a school, a business or advertising isn’t covered; see how you can use your song.

Is the song made by real musicians?

No. Your song is generated by a third-party AI music service from the story you send. Nobody at the studio writes, performs or reviews it before you hear it, so please check names and details in both previews.

What does a graduation song cost?

The two 60-second previews are free, with no payment and no obligation to buy. A full custom song is $19.99 USD, and you can buy it for up to 14 days after your previews are made.
