What to write for a personalized song gift

Tips for making five star songs for any occasion.

The AI writes your lyrics from the details you give it. Real names, places and moments give it more to work with than general words about love or loss. This guide covers what to put in each part of the form.

Create my free song preview

Two free 60-second previews, usually ready in about 5 minutes. No payment, no obligation to buy. Love one? Your full custom song is only $19.99 USD.

The short version.

  • Use real details. Names, nicknames, places, objects and phrases they actually say.
  • Tell a moment, not a summary. One or two scenes work better than “we have had a great life together.”
  • Put the important details first. The first 4,000 characters of your story are used, roughly 650 words. A few short paragraphs is plenty.
  • Say how to pronounce unusual names. Spell the name the way it sounds, in the “Anything extra you’d like to see end up in the song” box described below.
  • Describe the sound, not an artist. Choose up to two genres and add a mood or style, such as slow and gentle, or upbeat.
  • Listen to both previews and check the details. AI can mishear a name or misread a detail.

What to write in each part of the form.

These are the boxes on the story form, in order.

Occasion
Pick the closest match. It sets the tone of the lyrics. If nothing fits, choose “Another occasion.”
Their name
The name you want sung. Use the name or nickname they actually go by. It can appear in the chorus.
Your name
Who the song is from.
Your email address
Your previews and download link are sent here, so double-check the spelling. If nothing arrives, look in Spam or Promotions.
Your story
The main source for your lyrics. The next section covers what to include. The first 4,000 characters are used.
Your message
Something you want the song to say, in your own words. One honest sentence is enough. The first 1,000 characters are used.
Anything extra you’d like to see end up in the song
Add dates, locations and events you would like mentioned, such as a birthday, wedding date or anniversary, if one matters. You can also give instructions about the song: pronunciation notes (for example, “Aoife is EE-fa”), a word or phrase you’d like worked in, a sound or instrument, a voice or style you can describe, or a detail to leave out. Phrases are used where they fit, not always word for word. The first 1,000 characters are used.
Preferred instruments (optional)
For example acoustic guitar, piano or fiddle. This guides the result and does not guarantee an exact sound.
Preferred singer
Choose the voice you would like. This also guides the result.
Music genres
Pick one or two. The first genre is required. A few genres that fit usually work better than many that don’t.
Mood/Style (optional)
Pick a word for the mood or feel, such as Tender, Joyful or Uplifting, or type your own.
BPM, beats per minute (optional)
Choose Slower, Medium or A little faster for the speed of the music. Leave it blank and we choose the speed that suits your song.

What to put in your story.

You don’t need to be a writer, and you don’t need rhymes. Four kinds of detail help most:

  • Who they are to you. Their name, what you call them and what they call you.
  • Specific moments. The day you met, the trip, the kitchen at six in the morning. Say where it was and what happened.
  • Small, true details. Habits, jokes, sayings, foods, songs and places. These make a song sound like it could only be about one person.
  • How it feels. What you admire, what you’re grateful for and what you want them to know.

Here is the difference between general and specific:

GeneralShe is the best mom in the world.
SpecificShe leaves notes in our lunch bags, sings off-key in the car and still drives two hours to watch my games.
GeneralWe have been through a lot together.
SpecificWe lived in a camper for a year, and the heater broke the first week of December.

The AI is instructed to stick to the facts you give it and not to invent events, relatives or places, but it can still misread or add things. If a detail matters, write it down, and check it in the previews.

A short example.

This example is invented, for illustration only. Your own story will be different, and that’s the point.

Occasion
Anniversary

Their name / Your name
Siobhan / Dan

Your story
Siobhan and I met in 2009 at a farmers market in Tempe. She was arguing with a vendor about the price of peaches, and I laughed out loud. We have been married twelve years. Every Saturday I try to make pancakes shaped like Arizona, and every Saturday they look like a boot. Then we drive to Saguaro Lake with our dog, Biscuit. She hums the same three notes when she is nervous. Last spring I missed a flight and she drove through the night to pick me up, singing the whole way.

Your message
Thank you for choosing me every day, even on the boot-pancake Saturdays.

Spoken, sung or played
Our anniversary is June 14. Siobhan is pronounced shi-VAWN. Please work in “Saturday pancakes” if it fits.

Genres, instruments and singer
Folk and Country, acoustic guitar, female voice

What to leave out.

  • Sensitive details. Home addresses, financial details and health information. Your story is sent to a third-party AI service to create the music.
  • Another artist’s name or sound. We can’t imitate a particular artist’s voice or use existing song lyrics. Describe the genre, mood, tempo and instruments instead. Requests that name an artist or band may be rejected.
  • Vulgar or hurtful language. No swear words, and no lyrics that personally attack or degrade a person. Your song may be rejected, and we reserve the right to reject any song for any reason.
  • Details you don’t want sung. If something is true but private, leave it out, or say so in the “spoken, sung or played” box.
  • Private stories you don’t have the right to share. By sending the form you confirm that you may share the story. If it involves another person’s private life, check with them first.

After you hear your previews.

Your two previews are generated automatically by AI and emailed to you, usually in about 5 minutes, sometimes up to 10 minutes. Nobody at the studio reviews them first, so listen to both and check names and details.

If you buy a full song and something is off, tell us within 24 hours of buying. We will regenerate your song once at no charge, using your corrected wording.

Questions about writing your request.

How long should my story be?

Most people do well with a few short paragraphs. The first 4,000 characters are used, so put the most important details first. A longer story is not necessarily a better one.

Do I have to write the lyrics?

No. The AI writes original lyrics from your story. You can add words or phrases you would like worked in, and they are used where they fit.

Can I ask for a song that sounds like a particular artist?

No. We can’t imitate a particular artist’s voice. Choose up to two genres and describe the mood, tempo and instruments you like. Please don’t name an artist or band; requests that do may be rejected.

What if a name is pronounced wrong?

Add a pronunciation note in the “spoken, sung or played” box before you send the form, such as “Aoife is EE-fa.” If a preview still gets it wrong, you can send a new request with the name spelled the way it sounds.

What does it cost?

The two 60-second previews are free, with no payment and no obligation to buy. A full custom song is $19.99 USD, and you can buy it for up to 14 days after your previews are made. You must be 18 or older to order.

Is the song made by real musicians?

No. Your song is generated by a third-party AI music service from the story you send. Nobody at the studio writes, performs or reviews it before you hear it.

Tips by occasion: anniversary songs · love songs · memorial songs · wedding songs · birthday songs · Mother’s Day songs · Father’s Day songs · graduation songs · pet tribute songs · all occasions
